Gotham Premieres September 25 on WarnerTV

Before there was Batman, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and The Penguin, there is a story behind Gotham City and how it is spawned by villains. And this Thursday, September 25, witness how their story unfolds in this new series on WarnerTV, GOTHAM, as it premiers at 9 PM.

Last Tuesday, a special screening was held at Topshelf, Fully Booked. I was intrigued because the series will show how Batman began, and the untold stories behind his history.

Gotham is from executive producer/ writer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome). This one-hour drama follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the genesis of one of the popular superheroes of our time.

The main character, Commissioner James Gordon (Ben McKenzie of The O.C. fame) is one of the crime world's greatest foes. Everyone knows the name. But what is known of Gordon's rise from rookie detective to police commissioner? And what did it take to navigate the layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world's most iconic villains?

The drama also features who will become DC Comics' most renowned and enduring villains, including a teenaged Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (Camren Bicondova) and Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor). The early story arc will focus on The Penguin. Also making its debut in the criminal roster is notorious gang boss Fish Mooney, played by popular actress, Jada Pinkett-Smith.

After watching the first episode, we were all clamoring for more. The drama looks promising, the cast are all well played, and it is intriguing to watch as the story unfolds. I love how there are lots of emotions in this series.

Gotham has been fast-tracked to Asia and debuts tonight, September 25 at 9pm, just two calendar days after the US world premiere.
