MaARTe 2013: Exhibition and Sale of Museum-Quality Philippine Arts & Crafts

The Louvre, Paris, Guggenheim in Las Vegas - These two are the top destinations abroad when it comes to museums. In the Philippines, the most popular to date are the Ayala and Yuchengco museums, located near shopping malls and hotel complexes. As an art aficionado, a recent visit to the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar made me more interested in our culture and heritage. But here in Manila, you don't have to look further just to experience art and culture because government owned National Museum can teach you a lot about our history.

The artists of MaARTe 2013
The Museum Foundation of the Philippines' advocacy is to maintain the beauty of the National Museum of the Philippines and continue its programs and activities. So this August 23-25, the MaARTe Artisan Fair will be held  at the Rockwell Tent to feature fifty participants that are engaged in the production of distinct, handcrafted, indigenous, and artisanal products. Over the span of three days, the Foundation will promote these creative industries and cultural entrepreneurs by reaching out to Rockwell residents, their families and friends, residents of the neighboring communities, and the Museum Foundation’s enthusiastic supporters for arts and culture

One of the ways that MaARTe 2013 at Rockwell is different from other expositions is the participation of Al Caronan, curator and long-time creative director in numerous Manila-based international art fairs. He envisions this project as a showcase for “museum-quality crafts” that will provide the visitor a unique shopping experience.

During its Press Launch, we had a sneak peek on what to expect during the MaARTe 2013 and here are the different Pinoy craftsmanship:
